“Story Telling” comes to remote village
Children of Chawo Village are listening to stories told by the “story sister” from the Tibet Library.
Recently, employees of the Tibet Autonomous Region Library Reading Department visited Chawo Village in Resa Township, Lhatse County, Shigatse Prefecture to carry out the 54th “Story Telling” event.
There are 43 preschoolers aging four to six in Chawo Village, which lies 4,550 meters above sea level. The village has poor economic and transportation conditions and still has no kindergarten. Information here is mainly from television, and children usually have little exposure to extracurricular reading. Because of this, ajas (‘elder sister’ in Tibetan) from the Tibet Library bring stories to the children as well as donations of books and schools supplies.
