"Jewels" scattered on the Changthang Plateau in northern Tibet
The Changthang Plateau is an important inland lake area in China. The total lake area is more than 25,000 square kilometers. The scattered large and small lakes infiltrate the Changthang grassland and become a beautiful landscape.
There are nearly 500 lakes with an area of more than 1 square kilometer and more than 300 lakes with an area of over 5 square kilometers. The larger ones are Namtso, Serling Lake, and Zhari Namtso.
It is also one of the plateau lake areas with the largest number of lakes in the world and the highest lake elevation. The lakes are like "jewels" scattered on the plateau.
