Shandong aids Tibet to develop plateau vegetable industry

At present, the cucumbers, tomatoes, green peppers and other vegetables in the eight vegetable greenhouses are all ready to harvest. The greenhouses are run by Pendo, a vegetable planter in Tsongdu Village, Bacab Township, Bainang County, Shigatse City. These fresh fruits and vegetables will be sold to various parts of Tibet such as Ngari and Nagqu through local agricultural cooperatives, and some will even go to Shandong, a large vegetable province.

Bainang County is aided by cadres from Shandong Province. Since 1995, it has introduced modern vegetable planting technology, and in 1998, the trial planting of vegetables in the county achieved success. In the past 27 years, Bainang County engaged in vegetable planting and has become the largest "vegetable basket" in Tibet. It has built Tibet's first national-level standardized vegetable planting demonstration area and the first export vegetable filing base.
