The Transportation Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region introduced on May 10th that with the approval of the Tibet Autonomous Region government, the 255-kilometer section from Gongbo Gyamda to Lhasa of the G4218 Nyingchi-Lhasa expressway was open to freight vehicles for trial operation from May 9. This has ended the history of Tibet’s expressway not allowing freight vehicles to pass, which would further improve the efficiency of Tibet's comprehensive transportation network, reduce logistics costs, and achieve "smooth flow of goods".

"I used to make two round trips a day to delivery goods, but today I will try to make one more trip." On May 9, Guo Zhongwen, a truck driver from the building materials market in Doilungdeqen District, Lhasa, experienced driving a truck on the Nyingchi-Lhasa expressway for the first time. According to Guo, the time needed for one trip has been reduced by a third now, and it is much safer.

It is worth mentioning that the expressways in Tibet are currently free of charge. By the end of 2021, Tibet has built 7 expressways with a total length of 1105 kilometers.
