Regong is an area around Tongren City and Zeku County in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. In Tibetan, it means "golden valley" and is named after the valley formed by the Longwu River running through the entire region.
According to Cai Rangtar, the director of Tongren City Cultural Center, thangka is a scroll painting painted or embroidered with silk on a silk bordered cloth scroll, covering Tibetan Buddhism, history, politics, economy, culture, medicine and other fields.
Regong art is mainly concentrated in Tongren City, and its craftsmanship has been passed down for a long time. Art forms include thangka, murals, pile embroidery, sculpture, architectural painting, etc.
According to Tashi, the head of the Regong Painting Academy; As a center for the dissemination of intangible cultural heritage, the art academy has attracted a total of 71 students from outside of Shanghai, Beijing, Hebei and other provinces through free enrollment of students and cross regional research.
