"Tibetan medicine is a thousand-year-old wisdom flowing in the very blood of the plateau. Each proven prescription and each medicinal herb carries the accumulation and craftsmanship of our ancestors. Our mission is to let this treasure shine anew in the modern era." These recent words of Gombo Gedun, a inheritor of Tibetan medicine in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, capture the original aspiration of those dedicated to preserving this ancient healing art.

Nestled at the northeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at an average altitude of 3,000 meters, the unique geographical environment of Xiahe County in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture has not only nurtured abundant medicinal resources but has also cultivated a distinctive theoretical system of Tibetan medicine.

In recent years, Xiahe County has prioritized the Tibetan and Chinese herbal medicine industry as a specialty sector for development, driving a deep integration of traditional medicine with modern industry. A key local investment project launched in 2022, the Xiahe County Gongbaotang Integrated Health and Wellness Center (referred to as the Health Center), was established on the Sanko Grassland. After a period of construction and exploratory operation, this comprehensive Tibetan medicine heritage complex—integrating medical treatment, health and wellness, cultural preservation, and medical tourism—has become a benchmark for the inheritance and development of Tibetan medicine across Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

Evolving from a single pharmacy into a comprehensive industrial platform, and transitioning from traditional diagnosis and treatment to a modern, complete industrial system, the Health Center has not only achieved a transformation for Tibetan medicine—from inheritance to innovation, and from a singular focus to an integrated approach—but has also written a vivid chapter for Xiahe County. It has helped polish the county's distinctive brand of Tibetan medicine and strengthen its distinctive local economy.
