Beijing 2022 shows the best of Tibetan youth to the world

At the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, four youths from Tibet Autonomous Region participated in passing the national flag hand-to-hand to make its entry in to the stadium. The four youths are Rin chen Rgyatso, Dorje Tseten, Sonam Drolma and Champa Dengda from Minzu University of China. For the grand event, they had gone through rounds of selection and had a training of over 120 days.

"I represent our Monba ethnic group. It was the first time I stepped on such a big stage. I was so excited that the moment I passed the flag, I wanted to cry. It was the kind of excitement." Dorje Tseten said.

"For me, as I stand in the middle of the Bird's Nest, I represents not only youth from Tibet, but also Chinese youth, so I have the responsibility to successfully complete the national flag passing, and also have the responsibility to show the best of Tibet youth to the world." Rin chen Rgyatso recounted his mental journey when participating in the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022.

As for the difference between the daily rehearsal and the official performance of the opening ceremony, Champa Dengda said: “The difference is that in the official performance, I not only care about the movements and effect, but also want to show the confidence deep within.”

During the training, Champa Dengda got to know classmates from 56 ethnic groups, and they shared historical stories, customs and cultures of different ethnic groups together. He also got to know classmates from other universities in Beijing and from all over the world, who have different skin colors and different languages. Thanks to the Games, they can communicate with each other.

At the Beijing 2022, Tibetan athletes participated for the first time in an Olympic Winter Game. At the Beijing 2022, youths form Tibet wrote a story that belongs to "themselves" with their youthful vigor and love for the motherland.
