Tibetans sew colorful prayer flags to welcome New Year
Recently, farmers and herdsmen in Lhasa, Tibet have been sewing colorful prayer flags to welcome the coming Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival.
According to tradition, Tibetan people would replace the colorful prayer flags hanging on roofs, mountain tops, lakes, and other places around the third day of the Tibetan New Year to pray for good luck and good harvests in the New Year.
This year, the Tibetan New Year coincides with the Spring Festival. As the New Year gets closer and closer, many farmers and herdsmen are sewing multicolored prayer flags for sale in the Lhalu Community in Chengguan Garden, Chengguan District, Lhasa, forming a “temporary market”. The streets are filling with the strong flavor of the New Year.
