Penba Drolma:health guardian of women and children on plateau
“In recent years, great changes have taken place in the medical and health industry in Lhasa. The change is especially obvious in the obstetrics and gynecology, where the ability to rescue critical cases has strengthened, the maternal and neonatal mortality rates have dropped significantly, and the hospital delivery rate of pregnant women has reached 98 percent.” said Penba Drolma, vice president of the Lhasa People’s Hospital and a delegate of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Over the past 30 years, Penba Drolma has performed surgeries and participated in the guidance of nearly 10,000 gynecological and obstetrical surgeries, saving countless critically ill patients. She is trusted and loved by patients and their families, and affectionately known as a “Doctor with Magic Hands”.
From the moment she became a doctor, Penba Drolma often goes to the countryside to see villagers. She has gained a deeper understanding of the medical situation at the grassroots level.
Therefore, Penba Drolma often takes weekends or holidays to attend training courses for rural doctors, and worked part-time as an undergraduate teacher and master tutor of the Medical School Tibet University, striving to cultivate more outstanding talents for Tibet.
