Kasai: a Traditional Delicacy Essential for Tibetan New Year

With the the Tibetan New Year approaching, the streets and alleys of Lhasa are filled with a festive atmosphere. Kasai, a traditional delicacy symbolizing good luck, is an indispensable traditional food for the Tibetan New Year.

Kasai is made of flour, eggs, baking soda, cooking oil, powdered sugar and other raw materials. Eggs and baking soda are mixed into the flour to create a dough,?which is then kneaded into various shapes according to baker’s own preferences. The shaped dough is fried in oil over medium or low heat until it turns golden brown and crispy. Dust with powdered sugar after cooling it.
