In northwest China, hidden within the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, lies a golden wonder that has stunned the world. This is no delicate flower patch of the southern Yangtze region, but the vast expanse of rapeseed blossoms in Menyuan, Qinghai — rooted in the high plateau and stretching for over a hundred miles.

As the largest base for small rapeseed cultivation in northern China, Menyuan’s floral landscape defies conventional expectations. Its core bloom covers nearly 30,000 hectares (about 74,000 acres) of contiguous fields, with the scenic belt extending close to 100 kilometers, filling the entire Haomen River valley basin.

The sheer scale of tens of thousands of mu (a Chinese unit of area) creates a magnificent vista, while the juxtaposition of snow-capped peaks and golden blossoms offers an unparalleled spectacle. The high-quality oilseed produced here is also a local specialty. Menyuan’s rapeseed flowers are not only a natural gift from the plateau but also a living testament to the enduring agricultural civilization and rich produce of northwestern China.
