The Complete Collection of Xizang Mural Paintings, a comprehensive series completed over ten years with in-depth participation from nine cultural relics and archaeological institutions including the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Xizang Autonomous Region Institute of Cultural Relics Protection, has been published by Science Press. Based on the "Digitalization Project of Ancient Xizang Mural Paintings," the series comprises 6 volumes (in 7 books) and covers murals from 280 temples, residences, and manors across seven prefectures and cities in Tibet.

According to the introduction, the series provides an overview of Xizang murals from several perspectives, including iconographic analysis of mural themes, spatial distribution of murals in Xizang, characteristics of Xizang murals, and the historical development of Xizang painting styles. It presents the overall appearance of Xizang murals in a comprehensive and integrated manner. In particular, it preserves previously overlooked mural materials from small, remote temples and grottoes, providing archaeological evidence for exploring the formation of the pluralistic yet unified pattern of the Chinese nation.

Chai Huanbo, a researcher at the Hunan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the project leader, stated that this series documents the current state of Xizang murals, lays a data foundation for future conservation planning of these cultural relics, and will have a positive impact on the dissemination of Xizang culture.
