Frying “Kasai” with a Happiness Smell
Walking into Dan Sonam’s house, a villager from Renqinglin Village, Zhaxigang Township, Maizhokunggar County, Lhasa, Xizang, the aroma of "Kasai" fills the air. Dan Sonam and several villagers are concentrating on making the traditional snack. Each step, from kneading dough to cutting and frying, is carried out orderly by everyone.
Every year before the Tibetan New Year, Dan Sonam’s family begins the busiest period of the year—doing the “Kasai” business. Recalling the past, Dan Sonam was impressed: “When I was young, during the Tibetan New Year, frying ‘Kasai’ was the top priority of each household. The whole village was filled with a charming smell, the unique fragrance of the Tibetan New Year. Today, times are changing, and people’s lifestyles have also changed. More and more people buy ready-made ‘Kasai’ products to cater to the fast-paced modern life, which has provided us with development opportunities. We have done the ‘Kasai’ business for 6 years. In this period, relying on integrity management and adherence to high quality, our business has greatly improved. We have also helped 6 villagers to increase their income to create a better life together with our hands.”
