11th Panchen Lama visits black tent to experience nomadic culture
On August 21, Panchen Erdeni Choskyi Gyalpo, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, and president of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China, visited “Chidoi Dongxung” black tent in Laxi Town, Baqen County, Nagchu City, Tibet Autonomous Region to experience the nomadic culture of northern Tibet.
“Chidoi dongxung” means “a gathering of thousands of people” in Tibetan. It is an exhibition area created to display the traditional production means and lifestyle of herdsmen in pastoral areas in order to preserve and pass down nomadic culture. In the tent, nomads demonstrated the daily routines in pastoral areas such as grinding barley flour and refining yak butter and performed local singing and dancing for the 11th Panchen Lama.
The 11th Panchen Lama said that by visiting the black tent, he felt more deeply about the great changes having undergone in agricultural and pastoral areas. At the same time, he was pleased with the development of the agriculture and animal husbandry industries and the good inheritance and preservation of traditional culture.
