Panchen Lama elected president of the Tibet branch of Buddhist Association of China

At the 11th regional plenary session of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China, which closed on June 22, the Panchen Erdeni Choskyi Gyalpo was elected president of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China.

At the two-day conference, representatives from the Gelug, Sakya, Nyingma, Kagyu and other sects of Tibetan Buddhism from around Tibet elected leaders for the new session of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China based on serious research and democratic consultations.

The conference also invited Phagpalha Gelegnamgyal, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, honorary president of the Buddhist Association of China, and chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, to be the honorary president of the Tibet Branch of the Buddhist Association of China.
