The Source of Three Rivers as a Sanctuary for life
On the vast and mysterious land of Sanjiangyuan, where humans thrive in limited settlements, countless wild creatures have carved out their own homes amidst the ever-changing landscapes and harsh climates. Here, where mighty rivers originate and mountains stand as guardians, Sanjiangyuan is not only the cradle of life but also a true kingdom of animals.
From the Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve to the Sanjiangyuan National Park, protecting the shared home of humans and wildlife has always been the eternal theme of this land. As the world's highest-altitude national park, with an average elevation of over 4,700 meters, it boasts diverse ecosystems, including alpine meadows, alpine steppes, alpine deserts, alpine scree slopes, and wetland marshes. This rich environment has created unique biodiversity, earning it the title of "A Cold-zone Biodiversity Repository."
Beyond the breathtaking landscapes of Qinghai, this land holds even more captivating charm. The "Snow Mountain King" snow leopard frequently captures attention, while the endangered Tibetan antelopes in the "No Man's Land" of Hoh Xil draw global interest. Increasingly, wildlife photographers are turning their lenses toward Qinghai and the National Park. Their images are not just stunning snapshots of the local ecosystem; they may also serve as passports to the world stage. When rangers pick up cameras and capture the changing seasons through their lenses, they reveal a richer and more fascinating animal kingdom.
Within the 190,700-square-kilometer Sanjiangyuan National Park, adorable marmots, square-faced Tibetan foxes, groups of rock sheep, and agile Tibetan gazelles often appear unexpectedly in our view. Their alert or playful expressions always bring surprise, while their running or leisurely movements make us want to freeze them in photographs. As we wave goodbye, we realize how close they are and how unafraid they seem. See, when we are merely passing visitors, the story of harmonious coexistence between humans and animals will be written by you and me.
