Tibet’s power grid unified

Lobsang Shandan, a member of the National Committee of CPPCC (the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference), talked in an interview about power grid construction in Tibet. “Taking Ngari for example, it had long been a typical frontier ethnic area, poor and backward. The prominent contradiction between power supply and demand is the biggest constraint on the economic and social development here.” During the National Two Sessions in 2018, many representatives from Tibet, including Lobsang Shandan, proposed to the central government that they the main line of the central Tibet Power Grid could extend to Ngari.

In December, 2020, the world’s highest power transmission and transformation project, the Ngari-central Tibet Power Grid Interconnection Project, was fully put into operation, which marked the “last mile” of unifying Tibet’s power grid was finished.
