Tibet received over 30 million tourists in first 9 months
LHASA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tibet received 31.025 million tourists from home and abroad in the first nine months this year, a year-on-year growth of 29.9 percent, according to data released by the Commission of Tourism Development of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Meanwhile, Tibet's total tourism revenue reached 44.94 billion yuan (nearly 6.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the three quarters, up 29.8 percent year on year.
This year, Tibet will start to offer a winter discount for tourists who plan to visit the region during its off-peak season, starting from November 1 to March 15, 2019. All three-star tourist sites and above (excluding temples) will be free of charge within the period, expecting to further boost Tibet's year-round tourism.
During the four and a half months, Tibet's star hotels and international hotels, as well as tourist transport companies will keep their pricing under 50 percent of their busy-season ticket costs. Airlines will also offer an average flight discount of no less than 50 percent of the full price.
Moreover, Tibet will provide rewards for tourist companies that handle tourist trips to Tibet with chartered planes and trains.
