Tibet: tourism key to poverty alleviation

Qi Zhala, chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region recently presided over a meeting, studying the regional poverty alleviation plan during the “13th Five-Year Plan” and taking tourism as a key path.    

Tibet will not only attach importance to scenic spots construction, but also pay attention to the overall plan, promoting tourism resources and services to cover the whole region, avoiding tourism resources in idle, managing to achieve a sustainable tourism industry and enhance its quality and effectiveness.

Tibet will promote vigorously the integration of tourism with the primary,   secondary and tertiary industries, to further develop high quality tourism resources and consistently optimize the industrial structure, cultivate new industries, and strive to build quality tourism products.

Through doing all these, tourism industry of Tibet aims to provide a platform for entrepreneurship, employment, helping local people increase their income and get out from poverty. 

According to statistics from Tourism Development Commission of Tibet, The region welcomed more than 300,000 domestic and foreign tourists during the 2017 Spring Festival, achieving a tourism income of 250 million Yuan.
