Naked carp resource reserves in Qinghai Lake reaches over 100,000 tons
According to a recent monitoring done by the Yangtze River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, naked carp resource reserves in Qinghai Lake have reached 10,400 tons, an increase of 7,400 tons or 7.9 percent since last year, and also an increase of 38 times since the initial period of preservation.
Qinghai Lake naked card is a precious fish species unique to the Qinghai Lake. They play a pivotal role in maintaining the ecological safety and biodiversity in the Qinghai Lake basin. In 2004, the fish was listed as an endangered species by the “Chinese Species Red List”.
In order to protect naked carp and restore the ecosystem of Qinghai Lake, since the 1980s, Qinghai Province has implemented several “lake closures for fish breeding” on Qinghai Lake. At the same time, since 2002, Qinghai Province started to artificially reproduce and release naked carp. This year, artificial reproduction and release amounted to 16 million, the largest number since 2002.
