Pema Yudron: Enhancing the Rule of Law in Grassroots Governance Efforts

“Since 2013 when Medog County was open to traffic, the whole county has developed rapidly. Today, there are rows of new houses with ethnic characteristics. We can say that tremendous changes have taken place. The residents now have an increasing number of opportunities to enhance their income. However, alongside economic and social progress, various new conflicts and disputes have emerged, which means challenges that ordinary people had not encountered before,” said Pema Yudron, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), judge of People’s Court of Medog County.

In recent years, Pema Yudron has been actively involved in legal advocacy and promoting legal awareness within rural communities. To protect individuals’ rights and interests, she and her colleagues have regularly visited villages and households, providing easy and clear explanations of legal concepts to ensure all residents understand. Additionally, they have played a vital role in mediating conflicts and disputes within these communities. Over time, Pema Yudron has earned the endearing title of “the good daughter of the Moinba ethnic minority” from the villagers she assists.

Pema Yudron said: “In recent years, the primary focus of legal education has been on labor contracts, loan agreements, and other matters closely related to individuals’ daily lives. Consequently, we have also implemented ‘customized legal education’ in townships and villages, tailored to reflect the specific characteristics of cases handled by the courts.”

With the rapid development of the economy and society, it is essential to comprehensively enhance the level of grassroots legal construction. This year, Pema Yudron went to Beijing to attend “two sessions”, shouldering the responsibility of representing the people’s voices and providing suggestions for national governance. She expressed her commitment to diligently fulfilling her duties, actively offering recommendations, and conveying grassroots perspectives to the “two sessions”, contributing to fostering national unity, progress, sustained stability, and high-quality development in Xizang.
