Tsering Tsomo, workshop director of Xizang Ganlu Traditional Medicine Industry Group Co., Ltd., was elected as a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) in 2023. This marked an important turning point in her life.
Graduating from a vocational school in 2002, she chose to dedicated herself to the Tibetan medicine production industry out of a deep appreciation for traditional culture and has worked in this field for 22 years. Over these years, she has witnessed firsthand the transformation of the Tibetan medicine industry from manual production methods to an integrated machinery approach.
In her speech at the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) this year, Tsering Tsomo highlighted that the objectives of Tibetan medicine in Xizang are to establish a premier research platform for Tibetan medicine, a leading university specializing in Tibetan medicine, top-tier enterprises within the field, and an exemplary medical center dedicated to Tibetan medicine. In recent years, there has been a vigorous promotion of the coordinated development of “medicine, education, research, and production” related to Tibetan medicine. This initiative has played a crucial role in ensuring the health of diverse ethnic groups and fostering economic and social development in Xizang.
“I believe that the primary focus of Tibetan medicine should be on the commercial development of untapped formulas, enhancing the core efficacy of existing varieties, and ensuring the standardization and patent protection of key processing technologies within Tibetan medicine,” stated Tsering Tsomo. “With ongoing technological advancements, I am confident that the Tibetan medicine industry is poised for a brighter future,” Tsering Tsomo asserted with conviction.
