55 wetland bird species concentrate on raising chicks around Napa lake in Shangri La City
Napa lake is located in Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In Tibetan, it means "the lake behind the forest." With an average altitude of 3,260 meters, it is the most representative seasonal lake-marsh wetland in Yunnan Province's low-latitude, high-altitude region. In 1984, the Napa lake Provincial Nature Reserve was established, with a total area of 2,400 hectares, of which 2,083 hectares are internationally important wetland, making it one of Yunnan's five internationally important wetlands.

After years of effort, the ecology of the Napa lake wetland has continued to improved, making it one of the important wintering grounds for the black-necked crane, a national first-class key protected wild animal. "As the ecological protection and restoration work of the Napa lake wetland continues to advance, the wetland habitat has been continuously improved, and the shallow marshes are rich in aquatic plants, providing an excellent concealed environment for birds to build nests and lay eggs," said a staff member of the nature reserve management and protection bureau. "This year, the number of wetland birds that spend the summer and breed in Napahai has reached 55 species."
