'Mirror of the Sky', Salt Culture Promotes Salt Economy
Chaka Salt Lake is located in Chaka Town, Ulan County, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. Chaka means “salt pond” in Tibetan and “Dabuxun Naoer” in Mongolian, which means sea of green salt. This place has a long history and a rich cultural heritage. It is one of the birthplaces of Chinese salt culture.
Chaka Salt Lake is surrounded by three mountains: Qilian Mountain, Kunlun Mountain, and Rubber Mountain. The bottom of the lake is a thick layer of rock salt, covered with a shallow layer of brine. It is a brine lake with solid-liquid coexistence. The surface of the lake is like a huge mirror, embedded in the snow capped mountains and grasslands. The salt lake has a wide water area, with sparkling silver waves, blue sky, white clouds, and snow capped mountains reflecting into the lake, creating a picturesque scene.
Immersed in the world of salt, strolling on the lake surface is like walking on clouds. The water reflects the sky, the sky touches the ground, and people walk between the lakes, like swimming in a painting. It is known as the "mirror of China's sky" and has been named one of the "55 places to visit in one's lifetime" by the National Tourism Geography magazine.
Here, you can take a small train on the track that is only 60 centimeters long, accompanied by the fragrance of salt, and explore the lake center for sightseeing. You can also take a cruise ship to enjoy the magnificent scene of large salt boats spraying water and swallowing pearls, as well as the gorgeous paintings of sunrise and sunset over the salt lake. Through the clear lake water, you can admire the various shapes and growing salt flowers, explore the mystery of the salt world, and appreciate the development history of Daqing Salt for more than 3000 years at the Salt Culture Museum.
Chaka Salt Lake "Salt Culture+Salt Tourism" is an indispensable place on the Qinggan Tourism Ring Road. The salt economy here has effectively driven local residents to increase their income and become prosperous, injecting strong vitality into regional economic development.
