Deqen, Yunnan: Morels Reach Their Peak Harvest Season
In the spring, at the planting base in Jinjiang Town, Shangri-La, Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, morels have a good harvest. Farmers are seizing the opportunity to gather fresh and tender mushrooms. They smile happily.
As a kind of rare and edible mushroom, morel is always favored by consumers. In recent years, relying on its unique climate conditions, the morel industry in the Deqen Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province has evolved into a pillar industry for rural revitalization.
This development is achieved through the integration of technical support from enterprises, with farmers pooling their land as shares and providing employment opportunities, resulting in large-scale cultivation. Currently, the planting area in the whole prefecture has reached 8,000 mu, engaging more than 1,000 farmer households and increasing the average annual income of each household by more than RMB10,000.
In 2024, the comprehensive output value of the industry was RMB512 million. Moreover, 63 leading enterprises have been established within this sector, contributing to an increase in employment for approximately 18,000 individuals.
