Memorial Service Held for Victims of the 6.8-Magnitude Earthquake in Dingri
January 13 was the seventh day after the occurrence of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake in Dingri County, Southwest China’s Xizang autonomous region. At 9:30 a.m., a memorial service was held to mourn the victims of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Chamco Township, one of the worst-hit areas in the county. Hundreds of soldiers from the People’s Liberation Army of China and armed police officers and soldiers, firefighting and rescue personnel, public security police officers, medical workers, young volunteers, related employees of the enterprises, cadres and staff, and representatives of the people in the earthquake-stricken area attended the memorial service.
At 9:05 a.m. on January 7, a 6.8-magnitude quake hit Dingri, Southwest China’s Xizang autonomous region. With a high magnitude and intensity, the earthquake claimed 126 lives.

Currently, the Xizang autonomous region has made every endeavor to develop an comprehensive plan for temporary relocation and resettlement during the transition period to ensure that the disaster-affected people remain safe and warm this winter.
