Tibetannet

Since the Tang Dynasty, tea from the inland areas has been continuously transported into Tibet through the ancient tea-horse road, which has become a bond that closely linked the Han and Tibetan people. Because most of the Tibetan diet consists of meat, the Tibetans have a saying that "I would rather have no food for three days than a day without tea."

Yigong Tea Farm is located in Bome County, Nyingchi City, Tibet. It started producing tea in 1963 and opened up the first tea field in Tibet. The tea plantation has an average elevation of 2200 meters and is currently the world's highest organic tea production base.

In recent years, thanks to the joint efforts of the Guangdong Aid Tibet Task Force and the local people, the output, quality and sales of tea farms have been continuously improved. Most of the workers in the tea farm are natives of Yigong Township. Working in the tea farm not only increases their income, but also learns the knowledge of scientific tea production and the use of advanced tea-making equipment. Nowadays, many residents who used to go out to work have also returned home to engage in local work such as contracting tea fields, participating in tea planting, processing and sales, and developing tourism.
