Nutrients added to butter tea to prevent, cure nutritional anemia

The Ruijin Hospital, which is affiliated to School of Medicine of Shanghai Jiaotong University, held a nutritional butter donation ceremony via video connection with the Shigatse People’s Hospital on June 3. A total of 2.5 tons of nutritious butter from Shanghai was donated to anemia patients in Tibet to improve their inadequate intake of hematopoietic nutrients.

Adding nutrients to butter tea can fundamentally solve the cause of nutritional anemia in the local population of Shigatse.

Mima Dorje, head of the Shigatse People’s Hospital, said, “This is a matter of great concern to the health of the Tibetan people!” He told reporters, “The average altitude in Shigatse is over 4,000 meters above sea level.

The diet structure of the people here is very unscientific, and it lacks intake of vegetables, fruits, and fresh meat. There are a high number of altitude sickness, anemia, hydatidosis, and tuberculosis cases.”

Mima Dorje said that nutritional anemia, a disease that is rare in other parts of China, is common in Tibet due to lack of food nutrition. Now, adding nutrients to butter tea can fundamentally solve the cause of the disease.
