Autumn sports events kick off in Tibet

As southwest China's Tibet enters the golden and beautiful season of autumn, three major sports events including the mountaineering convention, the extreme cycling race and the mountain half marathon will kick off there, becoming additional features of the golden autumn landscape.

The 2018 16th China Tibet Mountaineering Convention had been held from September 30 to October 6 at the Yangbachen Mountaineering Training Base in Damshung County, Lhasa City, capital city of Tibet. To ensure safety, climbers, collaborators, and security personnel who have participated in summiting 14 peaks above 8,000 meters high, the 2008 Olympic torch relay on Mount Qomolangma (known as Mount Everest in west), and who have climbed the highest peaks of the seven continents have provided technical guidance and guarantee service for the event. The Tibet Autonomous Region Mountain Rescue Team had also provided services during the journey.

The 2018 First Cross-Himalaya Extreme Cycling Race will be held from October 15 to Oct.18. As it is the first, this year's race will only take place on the Nyingchi to Lhasa segment along National Highway 318. The starting point for the race will be at the Nyingchi City Convention and Exhibition Center, and the finish is located at the Potala Palace Square. The race has a total length of about 400 kilometers and will be held over three days. There are both road biking and mountain biking segments, and a total of 300 people have signed on to participate.

The 2018 Second Nyingchi Mount Nankya Bawa Half Marathon will be held on October 30. The race route is located within the Yarlung Tsangpo River Canyon, a 4A-level scenic area, and spans a total of 21.1 kilometers. The average elevation for the race route is below 2,900 meters. The altitude in the scenic Yarlung Tsangpo River Canyon is relatively low, which will be suitable for the athletes who are coming from within and outside the Tibet Autonomous Region to participate.
