Potala Palace free for visitors during winter time

The Potala Palace and Norbulingka will offer free admission for all tourists from November 1st through March 15th of 2019. Visitors could use their resident identification card or other documentation for entry.

According to management at the Potala Palace, starting on November 1st, the palace will offer the “Winter Tours in Tibet” beneficial policy to tourists with free entry. Considering that many farmers and herders are used to visiting Potala Palace around the Tibetan New Year and free admission around this time could increase visitors, the Potala Palace would limit daily visitors to no more than 5000 people to ensure the protection of cultural artifacts.

It is learned that Tibet Autonomous Region will continue to adopt the “Winter Tours in Tibet ” special offer policies for this winter and next spring season; public level 3A and above scenic spots except monasteries will offer free tours and up to 50 percent off for accommodation and transportation fees.
