Tibet begins second survey of wild plants
Tibet Autonomous Region has recently begun its second survey of national key protected wild plant resources, Tibet Daily reported.
This survey is being led by the Tibet Forestry Investigation and Planning Institute, along with contributions of 180 experts and technical personnel from the State Forestry Bureau, Tibet University, and other work units who will be responsible for specific tasks.
The survey’s main tasks include understanding the population of Tibet’s key protected wild plant resources, their distribution, survival conditions, status of managing their protection, status of threats to their existence and changing trends.
This survey is projected to be completed at the end of 2018, and a total of 36 kinds of wild plants have been identified as survey targets.
The survey area covers 18 counties within the prefectures/cities of Ngari, Lhoka, Nyingchi, Chamdo, Shigatse, and Lhasa as well as six nature reserves, comprising a total survey area of more than 7.5 million hectares.
