Tibet to build a whiskey distillery

Tibet Business News reported that construction on Tibet’s first whiskey distillery will begin in October of this year, with operations planning to begin in September of next year.

This distillery is part of a three-phase construction project of the Tibet Tianyoude Barley Wine Limited Liability Company, with a total investment of 100 million yuan.

Wang Zhaoji, CEO of the Tianyoude Company, said that “Our company has already signed an equipment purchasing contract with a Scottish whiskey equipment factory, and we will invite Scottish whiskey planning experts to develop an annual output of 3,000 tons of suitable Tibet whiskey fermentation. We have already completed a “Feasibility Study Report”.

Why did you choose Tibet to establish a whiskey distillery? “First of all, it can meet customer demand for product diversification; second, we can make full use of Tibet’s natural and pollution-free barley resources,” Wang Zhaoji said. “The elevation of Lhasa is high, which is suitable for the production of highland flavor whiskey, and also is in line with the “more unrestrained” characteristics of young whiskey. At the same time, whiskey is a distilled alcohol, and there are similarities at the distilling level with our production of distilled barley liquor, therefore the technical level application is more convenient.”

Whiskey is distilled from barley and other grains. After aging in oak barrels for several years, it has an alcohol content of around 43 degrees. The British call is the “water of life”. According to its place of origin, it can be divided into four major types: Scottish whiskey, Irish whiskey, American whiskey, and Canadian whiskey.
