Study shows overall water quality in Yarlung Tsangpo good

A special study shows that the water quality in the Yarlung Tsangpo River is good, but there are still man-made obstructions in upstream areas, Tibet Daily reported.

Researchers from Tibet University and Tianjin University jointly conducted systematic research for two weeks on the water and environmental quality of the Yarlung Tsangpo river basin, beginning on May 21.

The scope of the study began from the river source all the way to the river outflow and tributary in Medog County. Research methods included collecting water on-site and sediment samples, preliminary water quality evaluations on-site and follow-up laboratory analysis.

Experts believe that it is quite necessary to promote construction of infrastructure and public health facilities for the plateau tourism industry, in a bid to avoid creating a burden on the water environment.
