Documentary The Abolishment of Serfdom aired on CCTV
2016 is the 57th year since Tibet Autonomous Region of China abolished its serdom system; it also marks the 8th anniversary of millions of Tibetan serfs’ emancipation.
To celebrate this important moment, the Central Studio of News Reels Production (Group) has already finished making a high definition documentary including 2 chapters called The Abolishment of Serfdom that was broadcasted on the international channel of the CCTV on the 25th and 26th of 2016.
The Abolishment of Serfdom focuses on revealing the significant chapter in the human development history in the 20th century when “millions of Tibetan serfs were emancipated”. Through the description regarding the origins of the Tibetan serf system as well as its darkness and brutality, the documentary reflects the important role that the abolishing movement played in the history of Tibet, of the Tibetan people as well as the development of world human rights. The documentary at the same time embodies the development progress of the new Tibet.
In order to do a good job in filming this historically meaningful documentary, the film makers have borrowed the visual materials regarding the abolishment of serfdom in Tibet, and interviewed and filmed the people who experienced and witnessed the abolishing movement in Tibet as well as the scholars from home and abroad.
The documentary, by telling the stories from different perspectives, has restored the real history, therein revealing the necessity of the abolishment of the feudal serf system and reflecting the significant meaning of the abolishment of the serfdom for human liberation and the respect of human rights.
The documentary was rebroadcasted at 20:00 on the 28th on CCTV’s main channel.
