Chen Quanguo, Party General Secretary of Tibet Autonomous Region, came to the Jokhang Temple on Jan. 10 to visit the monks and cadres in the temple, and express New Year wishes to them on behalf of Tibet Party Committee and regional government, Tibet Daily reported.
At the meeting with the lamas and cadres in the temple, Chen Quanguo pointed out that the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as General Secretary has always attached great importance to Tibetan Buddhism and cared a lot for the lamas and lay people of Tibet. In June 2015, General Secretary Xi Jinping accepted an audience with 11th Panchen Lama and encouraged him to inherit Tibetan Buddhism’s fine tradition of loving the country and the religion, carry forward the positive thinking of developing what is good and discarding what is bad, stressing equality and tolerance and helping the poor in the Tibetan Buddhist doctrines. This not only showed Xi’s care for 11th Panchen Lama’s progress, but also his high expectation for everyone in the Tibetan Buddhist circle.
He expressed his hope that lamas and nuns in Tibet to bear in mind the care of the CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi, cherish the harmonious and stable situation, unswervingly follow the Party and firmly fight against separatist, infiltrative and disruptive activities. He also required them to expound the religious canon and doctrines in compliance with the progress of the times, adapt Tibetan Buddhism to socialist society and make positive contributions to building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way together with other parts of the country.
