Tremors from 6.8 earthquake in India wake people in Tibet

According to the Times of India, on Jan. 4 a 6.7 Richter scale earthquake occurred on the India-Myanmar border, which was felt in northeast India. There are currently no reports of casualties.

According to US Geological Survey Earthquake Information Network, the 6.8 Richter scale earthquake took place 33 kilometers northeast of Imphal in India’s northwest, at 7:05 Beijing time on Jan. 4.

Many people in Lhasa felt the tremors and some were even woken from their sleep. After waking up they felt the floor vibrating for about four of five seconds and then heard neighbors opening their windows.

Not far from the earthquake in Nyingchi city, Medog County, county head Tashi said that the earthquake felt particularly strong in Medog. The county government has already phoned up each village and town to notify them of the situation as quickly as possible.
