Modern green industrial base takes shape in Lhasa

During the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), the Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone has actively adapted itself to the changes in the national macroeconomic policies, achieved rapid economic and social development, improved its infrastructure, continuously optimized its investment environment and preliminarily established a modern green industrial base with the plateau characteristics.

With a total land area of 5.46 square kilometers in the western suburb of Lhasa City, the Lhasa Economic and Technological Development Zone is the 47th state-level economic and technological development zone established with the approval of the State Council on September 19, 2001, the only one of its kind in Tibet Autonomous Region. It is also an important platform for Tibet to open up to the outside world and attract external investment. It has integrated functions of research and development, processing, export, trade and community building and so on.

In 2011, a state-level new industrialization demonstration base of green food industry was inaugurated in this development zone, gathering such leading enterprises as the Tiandi Green Beverage Development Co., Ltd., Wahaha Group, Tibet Plateau Natural Water Co., Ltd. and Treasure of Plateau. The total output value of beverage industry reaches 1.5 billion yuan (234.3 million US dollars).

The total output value of the medicine and health products in the Development Zone hit 230 million yuan (35.93 million US dollars) in 2014. Such enterprises with national Tibetan medicine GMP certification as the Nectar Tibetan Medicine, Tianzhi Bio-technology Development Co., Ltd. settle in the Development Zone, accounting for 30.4 percent of those with GMP certification in the Tibet Autonomous Region and having over 70 production lot numbers of medicine and health products.

By October 2015, a total of 131 enterprises settle in this Development Zone, with a total investment of 19.842 billion yuan (3.1 billion US dollars). There are also 2,786 registered enterprises, with a total registered capital of 72.045 billion yuan (11.25 billion US dollars).
