Tibet's Nyingchi will hold a high altitude half marathon

Nyingchi is about to hold the 2016 Namjagbarwa half marathon in mountainous region at the end of October, with the average altitude of 3,000 meters along the route, according to Physical Education Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The race track is located in the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon, the 4A-class scenic spot, not too far away from the famous Namjagbarwa. The total length of the route is 21 kilometers. It is considered to be a high altitude marathon competition, with the highest altitude of 3,200 meters.

This competition will be co-hosted by the Physical Education Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the People's government of Nyingchi city.

As the track is in the high altitude areas, the organizing committee of this marathon will require participants to be between the ages of 16-60. Furthermore, they must submit the health verification from the hospital.

In addition, the participants also need to submit the official certificates of running races of 10 kilometers or above they have participated in recent one year, according to reports.

When compared with other parts of the Tibet, Nyingchi has relatively lower altitude, higher forest coverage and oxygen concentration in the air. For runners of this marathon, there will be beautiful scenery along the track, at the time of the golden autumn season. They will be able to enjoy the scenery while running.
