How did the “King of cordyceps”come to being?

On August 29th, the Cordyceps Evaluation regarding the 16th Reba Culture Tourism Art Festival and Cordyceps, Ivory Jade Trade Fair was held in the Tengchen County of the Chamdo City in Tibet.

In the end, Ngawang Tsering Drakpa from the town of Tengchen earned the title of “the King of cordyceps” with 670 cordceps percatty.

Ngawang Tsering Drakpa has earned three times the title of “the King of cordyceps”. The last two times was respectively in 2011 and 2013.

During the evaluation, the committee will first use a scale to weigh out fairly 500 grams of cordyceps out of those brought from different towns by the contest participants. Then they will evaluate comprehensively all qualifications of the cordyceps including the dry level, the look, the size and then the quantity all in order to pick out the most outstanding ones to be titled as “the King of cordyceps ”

In April of 2010, Tengchen County registered the regional brand of “Khyungo (Tengchen) Cordyceps” at the State Administration for Industry & Commerce of P.R. China. In 2012, Tengchen County got the reputation of “the hometown of gold cordyceps” by CCTV.
