1st Tubollywood film festival launched in Qinghai

The first Tubollywood Film Festival will be launched in Xining, Qinghai Province, Chinanews.com reported.

The film festival is jointly organized by the China Film Association, Qinghai Provincial Radio, Television, and Film Bureau, the Film Producers Association of China, and the Qinghai Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People’s Government, to spread information about the unique geographical features and cultural resources of Qinghai, and to promote the prosperous development of Qinghai minority films.

According to Nyima Gyaltse, head of the Tubollywood Film Festival, the festival will take place on August 29 in Delingha City. They have organized more than 10 main events, including the opening ceremony, minority film exhibition, discussion forum, film review, red carpet show, and awards presentation ceremony.

Currently, organizers have determined the Tibetan antelope to be the mascot of the film festival and have appointed Tibetan youth actor Purba Rgyal to act as ambassador. Nearly 60 awards are divided into seven major categories: Nominated Works, the Golden Tibetan Antelope Award, Silver Tibetan Antelope Award, Excellence Award, individual awards as well as special awards and Grand Jury Award.

“At present, Chinese children’s films and minority films to some degree demonstrate the condition of those on the periphery,” Zhang Haitao, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of Qinghai Province, said. “We should create a minority film brand and set up special arts cinemas in order to bring these films back into the public eye.”
