Farmers and herdsmen in Tibetan-inhabited areas of Gansu benefit from tourism
In late May, after the rain, the air was fresh in Boyu Village, Zhuoni County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province. Gao Jiqing’s wife Lhamodro was making yak butter.
Since the opening of “Happy Tibetan Homestay” in 2017, Gao Jiqing’s family has benefitted from the tourism industry, and they have also transformed from farmers and herdsmen to full-time “attendants”. In addition to inviting tourists experience an authentic Tibetan homestay, they also tell the moving story of “red chieftain” that helped the Red Army.
