Source of the Yangtze River

After the Spring Festival, the Band Mountain Environment Protection Team started to work in the Tuotuo River at an altitude of 4500 meters which is the source of the Yangtze River. The team leader Buzhaxi patrols in pasture unscheduled, picking up the garbage and stores them in different category, and sends non-biodegradable rubbish to the Yangtze River Ecological Protection Station which is 50 kilometers away.

In recent years, because of the coming ofoutsiders and the changing of lifestyle of local herdsmen, the non-biodegradable household garbage is increasing on grassland, which is a growing threat to the local ecosystem. In order to inspire more and more people to participate in the protection of the source region of the Yangtze River, the three herdsmen in Tanggula town of Golmud City established an ecological protection team in the New Year's Eve which aims to protect the wild animals and ecological environment of the Band Hill, Band Lake, Jiebi Lake and other areas. 

The main work of ecological protection team is to find existing problems of wild animals and the ecosystem of pasture, and to clean up and classify garbage and send the non-biodegradable rubbish to the protection stations in the sides of the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, where the non biodegradable rubbish can be disposed effectively. Undoubtedly, the target of work is to recover the ecosystem of pasture.

Buzhaxi said: “I’m living in the Band Mountain which is in the Tuotuo River Bridge 50 miles upstream. Although the traffic is inconvenient and the weather is bad in there, the place is the paradise for wild animals such as snow leopard, wild goose, Tibetan antelope, Tibetan wild ass, wild yak, and so on. Our team has just been established, and we hope that can inspire our neighbors to join us to protect wild animals and environment effectively.”
