Over 40,000 tourists visit Mount Qomolangma in 2015
According to the Dingri county government of Tibet Autonomous Region, the base camp for Mount Qomolangma, the world’s tallest mountain, had over 40,000 tourists last year, earning around 14 million yuan (2.26 million US dollars) in admission tickets.
More and more tourists are traveling to the base camp now.
The improved infrastructure at the base camp in recent years has helped make travel to the region easier, with an asphalt road connecting the county to the base camp as well as electricity for the base camp. There are also service stations providing emergency and lodging services.
The best season for hiking the north side of Mount Qomolangma is late April through early June, and mid-September through early October. Regular tourists can visit Mount Qomolangma year round.
Currently, all tourists who visit the Mount Qomolangma base camp can enjoy half-off tickets (a 90 yuan discount). The starred hotels and most private family inns in Dingri County are operating as usual and offering off-season prices.
