Tibet plans to create China’s highest ski resort
Following the rapid development of winter sports in China, the Tibet Sports Bureau plans to construct a ski area with one of the highest elevations.
Nima Tsering, deputy director of Tibet Sports Bureau, who has rich experience in high mountain sports, said on the 16th of this month that, the average elevation along the Qinghai-Tibet plateau is above 4,500 meters, and that it possess relatively unique conditions for winter sports development, furthermore that it beholds possibilities to offer winter sports hobbyists unique and incomparable experiences, and therefore Tibet’s prospects for such winter sports development is absolutely extensive.
Other than this, Tibet Sports Bureau has already signed a cooperation agreement with Heilongjiang Province, which will provide training for Tibetan ski athletes. Nima Tsering said, “we hope to see the talents of Tibetan skiers during the 2022 Winter Olympics.”
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Tibet put great effort into development of the outdoor industry encompassing winter sports. According to the plan, the region will take its characteristic natural places such as mountain peaks, forests, grasslands, rivers, lakes and glaciers amongst other treasurable resources and develop from them wonderful outdoor sports projects, and from this create a vast outdoor activities area for the entire world to enjoy.
