Tibet perfect for winter sports
Tibet is naturally blessed for winter and mountain sports. At the “2015 China Sports Industry Innovation Forum,” Nyima Tsering, the deputy director of Sports Bureau in Tibet Autonomous Region, commented that as winter sports in China experiences rapid growth, Tibet has the most potential for developing winter sports and mountain sports. Skiing on Tibet's mountains will be a highlight of winter sports in China.
Nyima Tsering explained, “Mountain sports has been popular on the Himalayas for a long time, on Mt. Qowowuyag, Mt. Shishapangma, and Mt. Qomolangma, mountain sports lovers have skied after climbing onto 8000-meter peaks with their equipment. The Tibet Shengshan Mountaineering Sports Adventure Co. organized a commercial mountain-climbing event last year for mountains at 7000 meters or above, it was a huge success. In addition to mountain climbing at high altitudes and other adventure sports, Tibet's Sports Bureau is now cultivating mountain skiing. The Tibet mountain-climbing team has just sent their coach to Beijing for ski training, which shows that mountain skiing will grow very fast.”
Tsering Samdrup, manager of the Tibet Shengshan Mountaineering Sports Adventure Co. said that during last year’s mountain climbing event, they really wanted to grow mountain skiing. “Last year, three mountain climbers from inland China participated in the mountain skiing event on Mt. Chomolhari. Led by our athletes, they skied down from mountain tops of 7034 meters. It was nerve-wracking, but also a great thrill for them.”
