Herdsmen of Baiyu, Garze Start “Beautiful Journey for Pasture Change”
Recently, on the Changtai Grassland in Baiyu County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, herdsmen of A’cha Village started the change to summer pasture, which is very important in a year.
At dawn, Sonam Phuntsog and his families set off. His families packed necessities of life such as black tents, furnaces, pots and pans, bedding and mattresses, and butter tsampa, loaded tractors with them, and transported all the materials to distant summer grazing sites. Sonam Phuntsog and his nephew rode horses and drove yaks.
The distance between the winter pasture and the summer pasture is 60 kilometers. After a 9-hour migration, they eventually reached the summer pasture at 3 p.m. At this time, with the help of neighbors, his families who had pitched a tent and cooked buttered tea waited for them.
After they reached the summer pasture, yaks could not wait to run towards the thickly-growing grass. Sonam Phuntsog and his nephew finally could get rid of a day’s tiredness and taste the delicious food prepared by their families.
