Qinghai: Mars Base Camp to operate in Febuary

The mars base camp of Lenghu Town, Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province has completed construction and is now in installation and testing phase, and is expected to be operational by February, according to the project leader of the Town.

The Lenghu Mars Base Camp is located in Eboliang Yardang, which is about 60 km west of Lenghu Town. The base camp has an area of around 80 mu (13 acre), and could host 60 people in sleeping pods and 100 people in tents.

According to the project director, Eboliang Yardang has been called “the least Earth-like place on Earth” for its Mars-like features, so they have built a fully-enclosed Mars base camp to create a complete Mars-landing experience. In order to meet tourists’ needs in dining, lodging, and star-gazing, the Eboliang Yardang Geology Park was put into trial operation on September 13, 2018 and is expected to be fully operational by February of 2019.
