Six small quakes occurred in Golog, Qinghai within three days
From Dec. 26 to 28, six small earthquakes continuously occurred in Dawo Township, Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province, Chinanews.com reported.
On Dec. 29, Wang Haigong, deputy director of the Qinghai Seismological Bureau, said that presently there is neither abundant evidence nor observable signs showing the earthquakes happening at the locations were destructive.
According to an evaluation produced by the Qinghai seismographic station network, these small earthquakes were of a 2.3 magnitude (at highest) and a 1.7 magnitude (at lowest). The epicenter was monitored at 34.4 degrees north latitude and 100.3 degrees east longitude, and the focal depths ranged from 7 to 10 kilometers.
Local people of Dawo could generally sense the six earthquakes and was scared to a small degree.
Some online users said that, "recently earthquakes have been occurring frequently and therefore you should not take off clothes when you go to bed at night. If possible, try to build a tent in your courtyard and stay there, bring food with you, such as mineral water and instant noodles…"
According to the Qinghai Seismological Bureau, since 1980 up until now, there have been 13 earthquake swarms occurring in this region. Besides this, after the earthquake swarms occurred, there have not yet been any actually destructive earthquakes at the location.
All seismographic stations all over Qinghai will reinforce observation duties, following and keeping a frequent tag on the seismic regime.
