Tourists to Nyingchi increased by over 60% year-on-year

The peach blossom festival kicked off Tibet's tourism season for 2018.

This year is the first year the "Winter Tourism in Tibet" program is in effect, where all tickets for A-level scenic spots are free from February 1 through April 30.

In Nyingchi, seven A-level scenic spots, including the Basum Lake, the Yarlung Tsangpo River Valley, Lulang, and the Nanyigou Valley are all free to visitors.

As of now, the Nyingchi Peach Blossom Festival has hosted 657 thousand visitors and the tourism revenue reaches 520 million yuan (82.5 million US dollars), a year-on-year increase of 62% and 57% respectively.  

The peach blossom festival also helps promote tourism in nearby areas such as Lhasa, Shannan and Shigatse.

According to data from the Tourism Development Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region, in 2017, Tibet has attracted 25.614 million domestic and international tourists and achieved a tourism income of 37.94 billion yuan (6.02 billion US dollars),increasing by 10.6% and 14.7% respectively compared to the same period of last year. And tourism industry has made up 28.95% of the regional economy.

In 2018, Tibet is aiming to host 33 million tourists and realizing a tourism income of 43 billion yuan (6.82 billion US dollars).
