Sichuan’s "bird paradise"

Wild flowers are in full bloom and birds are at play all over the Sershul County Wetlands, located across the three provinces of Sichuan, Qinghai, and Tibet in the southeastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Sershul County is the most distant, highest, and least accessible highland county in Sichuan Province. In order to provide birds with a safe habitat and environment, they have created a highland “bird paradise”. In 1998, Sershul County established a bird protection patrol across its 23 townships (villages), as well as a bird protection propaganda group in order to strengthen the appreciation of birds at the grassroots level, spread information about protection birds, and increase the public’s awareness about the appreciation of birds.

The Sershul County Wetlands have a total area of 1.1 million hectares, in which there are 31 species of primary- and secondary-level protection birds and more than 100,000 birds" settled down" in the Sershul County.
